COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 and The Island Inn (3/31/22)

To all our Island Inn friends,

Who would have thought in early 2020 that we would still be thinking and talking about COVID-19?  Enormous progress has been made in its prevention and treatment given vaccination rates and reduced symptom severity. In the states where most of our guests reside, Maine (78.8 %), Massachusetts (78.2%), New Hampshire (69.3%) and New York (76.2%), the fully vaccinated rates are dramatically higher than the national rate of 66%.

So, what is the prudent and practical thing to do in 2022 to keep everyone as safe as possible, while making your guest experience as “normal” as possible?  We will continue to follow Maine CDC guidelines that are currently in effect.  As of today, (3/31/22) these guidelines state that we should comply with measures determined by the county in which we’re located., based upon COVID-19 “Community Levels”.  Levels can be low, medium, or high and are determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area. The Island Inn is in Lincoln County which is classified as “Low”.  In addition, all 3 Island Boat services are also based in “low risk” locations.

Low Risk County Guidelines:

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines.
  • Get tested if you have symptoms.
  • People may choose to mask at any time.  People with symptoms, a positive test or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.

In addition to following these CDC Guidelines, the Inn will:

  • Require all Inn staff to be vaccinated.
  • Continue to use covered outdoor seating at the Barnacle Café due to its extremely small size.
  • Provide hand sanitizing units at all entrances, common areas and public space bathrooms.
  • Conduct daily health assessments with all vaccinated staff to catch any “breakthrough infections”.  Rapid testing is available on the Island in case a staff member develops COVID-like symptoms.
  • Continue to use a contact-minimized check-in process that reduces congestion and waiting.
  • Continue providing our complementary breakfast as a plated service with the same menu options as our traditional buffet.
  • Use and document the completion of a 33-item enhanced sanitization checklist for each guestroom at each turnover.
  • Collect contact tracing information from non-guest parties in the Dining Room.
  • Maintain Plexiglas barriers at the Front Desk and the Barnacle Café.
  • Improve weatherproofing and comfort of the screened deck adjacent to the Dining Room for an enhanced ventilation option.
  • Cooperate with and support the Monhegan COVID-19 Task Force in keeping the Island residents safe.

PLEASE BRING MASK(S) WITH YOU SO THAT YOU CAN FOLLOW NEW MASKING REQUIREMENTS IN CASE THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT RISK LEVEL CHANGE DURING YOUR STAY AND TO COMPLY WITH THE POLICIES OF DIFFERENT ISLAND BUSINESSES.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Monhegan as we all seek some normalcy and peace after such a difficult and confusing period in all our lives.  Be safe and see you this summer!
