The Barnacle | The Island Inn - Monhegan Island

The Barnacle is a name associated with the history of the island, as a tea room that quenched the thirst of many visitors and locals back in the early part of this century. The building that the Barnacle is situated in has overlooked the wharf since the early part of the 1900’s and the huge wooden beams that are the strength of the building are evident inside and provide a backdrop for the original lobster buoys which decorate them.

The Barnacle has a state-of-the-art espresso machine and serves a full line of coffees using locally roasted Monhegan Coffee Roasters coffee. We also offer teas, juices, sodas, waters and ice cream, along with a variety of home baked goods including scones, brownies, and cookies; and prepared sandwiches, chowder and salads, all of which can be taken home, on a picnic or eaten at the Barnacle. Visit our gift shop for unique postcards, T shirts and gifts.

The Barnacle Cafe proudly partners with Monhegan-based La Nef Chocolate, Monhegan Island’s first small-batch boutique chocolate company and Monhegan Coffee Roasters.

The opening hours for the Barnacle are 8:00am to 5:00pm. Check out Monhegan Welcome’s Events Calendar or The Barnacle Facebook page for information on concerts, artist talks and other events at The Barnacle and around town.
